At Portsmouth Ghostbusters, we are dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants, especially children, in our activities. Our Safeguarding Policy outlines how we prevent, recognize, and respond to concerns regarding abuse.

Prevention:

  1. All staff and volunteers undergo background checks and receive training on appropriate conduct with children.
  2. We avoid one-to-one situations between adults and children, conducting interactions in open, visible spaces.
  3. Parents and guardians are encouraged (and in most cases, required) to join and actively participate in our activities, and we communicate our safeguarding procedures to them.

Recognition:

  1. We educate staff and volunteers on recognising signs of abuse and encourage children to speak up if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
  2. Any concerns or suspicions regarding a child's safety are reported immediately to the designated safeguarding officer or workshop organiser.

Response:

  1. All reported concerns are treated with urgency, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
  2. We escalate concerns to the appropriate authorities for investigation and follow their guidance on next steps.
  3. Support and assistance are provided to the child and their family following a safeguarding incident.

Review and Revision:

  1. We regularly review and update our Safeguarding Policy to reflect changes in legislation, best practices, or organisational needs.
  2. We welcome feedback and suggestions for improvement from staff, volunteers, parents, and children.

By participating in Portsmouth Ghostbusters activities, staff members, volunteers, parents, and children agree to adhere to this Safeguarding Policy and cooperate with its implementation.
